Aspen HYSYS(R) - Advanced Process Simulation - PO1170
Course ID: PO1170
Course Name: Aspen HYSYS(R) - Advanced Process Simulation
Course Category: Process Engineering
Course Subject: Advanced Process Modeling using Aspen HYSYS(TM)
Duration: 18 hours
Agenda:
Objectives

• Learn how to use and apply advanced modeling techniques to enhance existing Aspen HYSYS flowsheets

Course Benefits

This course is designed to show you how to:
• Use the Column Subflowsheet to create custom columns, including non-standard configurations
• Perform complex calculations on flowsheet variables using the Spreadsheet
• Create models that emulate plant conditions including Real separators
• Create different types of Reactions and attach Reaction Sets to unit operations

Who Should Attend
• Process engineers who need advanced skills for more complex modeling tasks
• R&D engineers and researchers using Aspen HYSYS for process synthesis, upgrade or modificationsApproach
• Instruction on basic topics
• Discussion about the general approach and the key elements for successful simulations
• Instructor-guided demonstrations of features
• Hands-on workshops using a Turbo Expander plant as a sample process
• A full set of detailed course notes on all topics is provided

Course Content

Module 1      Getting Started
• Use core flowsheeting functionality to build a Turbo Expander plant flowsheet with a multi-pass exchanger and other key unit operations (heater, separator, column, etc.)
• Introduce the Set operation

Module 2      Extensions
• Demonstrate the ability to add unit operations to Aspen HYSYS via extensibility
• Use a pre-built extension in a Aspen HYSYS simulation

Module 3      Advanced Columns
• Customize column by replacing the generic reboiler with a sizable heat exchanger
• Perform Tray Sizing and Rating calculations using the Tray Sizing utility

Module 4      Spreadsheets and Case Studies
• Import and export variables to and from the Spreadsheet; add complex formulas
• Use the Case Study to evaluate flowsheets

Module 5       Modeling Real Separators
• Model liquid/vapor carryover so that your model matches your process mass balance or separator design specification

Module 6       Dynamic Depressurization
• Size and rate pressure safety valves to safely meet plant conditions by adding and configuring the Dynamic Depressuring utility

Module 7       Reactions
• Add reactions to the fluid package and model synthesis gas production using conversion and equilibrium reactors

Module 8       Optimization
• Use the Aspen HYSYS Optimizer to investigate the debottlenecking and optimization of flowsheets, including the:
- Original Optimizer
- Hyprotech SQL Optimizer

Requisite: Should have attended ‘Process Modeling Using Aspen HYSYS’ training course or have equivalent modeling experience
